Every fall semester, ODU hosts local and national nonprofit organizations for our NonProfit Career & Volunteer Fair. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how they can make a difference in our local and worldwide community!
The Fall 2014 Nonprofit Career & Volunteer Fair will be held on October 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Griffin Center. If you are interested in volunteering at the Fair, please contact Campus Ministry at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is a Career & Volunteer Fair?
ODU's Career & Volunteer Fair is similar to a career fair. The fair displays a wide variety of opportunities open to students who would like to explore volunteering with nonprofit service organizations. It is open to all students interested in pursuing local, domestic or international service after they graduate. Representatives from the agencies and organizations gather on campus to meet and talk with students. It is a networking event to become familiar with the particular opportunities, work and experiences offered by the attending organizations.
What should I expect?
The Career & Volunteer Fair is a relaxed atmosphere. Representatives are looking to get to know people and students. For the volunteer, the purpose of the fair is to introduce a wide variety of volunteer opportunities in the hope of finding an organization or agency that matches the volunteer's passion and vision of making a difference in the local and worldwide community. The purpose of the fair for the organization is to connect with new volunteers.
Should I prepare anything ahead of time?
Though it might be helpful to come prepared with resume in hand, it is certainly not required or expected. This is an excellent opportunity to meet, talk and build relationship between students and organizations. Business casual to casual is appropriate attire; look presentable.
History of Ohio Post-Graduate Volunteer Fairs
In 2004, ODU's Peace and Justice Program, in collaboration with the University of Dayton, initiated a "Post-Graduate Volunteer Fair." The fair hosted organizations and agencies during the day that year in Gallagher Student Center. The two consecutive years following it grew in number of participants, agencies/organizations and students. It also was moved to the Cintas/Schiff Family Conference Center Duff Banquet Room and held in the evening. In 2005, John Carroll in Cleveland joined Xavier and Dayton to form the volunteer fair "Ohio Loop." Fall 2009 marked the addition of Ohio Dominican University to the "Ohio loop" of volunteer fairs. It has now become ODU's annual Nonprofit Career & Volunteer Fair.
