Hometown: Ashville, OhioOrganizations & Activities: President of Sport Management Society
Why did you choose to attend Ohio Dominican University?
I decided to transfer to ODU after learning about its Sport Management program and the different opportunities that can arise from studying sports in the Columbus area. I also loved ODU’s small class sizes and how proud ODU students are!
How do you stay involved at ODU?
When I first started at ODU, I immediately joined the Sport Management Society and Panther Krazies. Being in the Sport Management Society has helped me discover different organizations around campus and learn about internship opportunities in the Columbus area. At ODU, there really is an organization for everyone!
Have you participated in any internships?
One of the first things I did when I became a student at ODU was learn about all of the internship opportunities in the area. After my first year, I had an internship with the Chillicothe Paints baseball team.
That experience helped me obtain an internship with the Columbus Clippers baseball team in 2013. My internships have helped me develop a strong network in the sport industry and have prepared me to pursue a career in baseball after graduation.
What organizations do you participate in, and what have you gained from them?
I am currently the president of the Sport Management Society at ODU. Everyone in the organization plays a key role in organizing events that will allow those in our major to make connections in the sport field that can lead to internships and even future jobs. Having those opportunities has allowed me to build my resume and become the person I am today.
What would you say to a prospective student who is considering attending ODU?
Ohio Dominican is a small school with big heart! Whether you are a student athlete or a traditional student, there are many opportunities to meet new people and create lifelong friendships.
A major benefit of attending ODU is the one-on-one connection that you have with all of your professors, which can help when you’re looking for internships or preparing for your career. As an ODU student, you aren’t just a student; you are part of the Panther family.
What is your most memorable moment at ODU?
There have been so many memorable moments during my time at ODU, but my favorite moment was when the Panther football team played on national television last fall. Being an NCAA Division II school, ODU’s teams don’t typically receive a lot of national media attention. This event brought the city of Columbus together to cheer the Panthers to victory! As a Sport Management major, it also offered an inside look into all of the preparation that goes into a large event.
What do you want to do after graduation?
After graduation, I plan on moving to Nashville, Tenn. and begin a career with the Nashville Sounds baseball team, which is the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. I hope to use this as a stepping stone to become a marketing director of a Major League Baseball team later in my career.
What is one unique experience you’ve had at ODU that has helped you grow personally, professionally and/or spiritually? Why?
The past year has helped me grow as a person and really focus on my career goals. In addition to carrying 18 credit hours, I worked part time and had an internship. Though difficult, that experience has shown me just how far hard work can take you in all aspects of life. While I didn’t have a lot of free time, I wouldn’t trade that year for anything because of where it has led me.
How proud are you to be an ODU student?
I am very proud to be a Panther! ODU has helped me grow as a student and as an individual. The experiences I’ve had and the people that I have met at ODU will always be a major part of my life!
