Ohio Dominican University will welcome retired Army Colonel, former chief of staff to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, and renowned national security analyst Lawrence Wilkerson on Feb. 15, 2018.

Wilkerson will present “National Security in the Age of Trump” at 7 p.m. in the Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center in rooms 258-260, located on ODU’s campus at 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus, 43219.

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

“Larry Wilkerson is a world class national security expert known for rigorous, non-partisan analysis and clear expression of his views,” said ODU’s PATRIOTS Program director, Major General Dennis Laich, (Ret.) AUS. “Any citizen interested in the security of our nation should plan to attend this event.”

Lawrence Wilkerson is currently the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He has served in numerous roles, including as chief of staff to Colin Powell at the U.S. Department of State and associate director and member of that department’s Policy Planning staff under Ambassador Richard Haass. Wilkerson served 31 years in the U.S. Army as both enlisted man and officer. His final assignments were as special assistant to then-Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell from 1989 to 1993, and as deputy director and director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College from 1993 to 1997.

Wilkerson has been awarded the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Star, among other awards and decorations. At the Department of State, he earned the Secretary’s Distinguished Service Award and two Superior Honor Awards. 

He has been published in numerous publications, including The American Conservative, the Los Angeles Times, the Baltimore Sun, the Miami Herald, the New York Daily News, and other magazines and newspapers across the country, and has appeared on television with Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, Chris Hayes, Ed Shultz, Lawrence O’Donnell, Rachel Maddow, Wolf Blitzer, Chris Cuomo, Alisyn Camerota, the BBC's Hardtalk and Newsnight, and others.

Lawrence and his wife, Barbara, live in Falls Church, Virginia.
