Ohio Dominican University President Robert A. Gervasi, Ph.D. has announced an addition to the University’s Leadership Team, as well as several staff promotions. Sister Diane Traffas, OP has been named Vice President for Mission and Identity. Mark Cooper, who previously served as Vice President for Marketing and Public Relations on the Leadership Team, has been appointed to an expanded role as Vice President for Advancement and External Relations.
Dr. Gervasi also announced two staff promotions as a result of the restructuring in the marketing and advancement areas of the University. Christie Flood Weiner has been named Associate Vice President for Advancement and Director of Alumni Relations, and Tom Brockman has been named Associate Vice President for Marketing and Public Relations.
Sr. Traffas has served as the Director of the Center for Dominican Studies at ODU since October 2016. She holds a double bachelor’s degree in English and Education from Marymount College in Salina, Kansas, and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Wichita State University in Kansas. She has served as an elementary school teacher and a school principal in two states, as well as at Amakohia Girls High School in Owerri, Nigeria. Sr. Traffas received the Teacher of the Year Award as well as the Woman of Achievement Award from the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. She is a member of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, ODU’s founding congregation, and she has served for 20 years in leadership roles with Catholic Health Initiatives, including as Vice President for Mission Integration, where her role was to ensure mission as a core business process across the organization. In 2016, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Springfield-Washington County Chamber of Commerce in Springfield, Kentucky.
Cooper joined the University in 2012 and has more than 25 years of experience in higher education. He previously served as Senior Director for Marketing and Communications at Ohio Wesleyan University, and in numerous public relations, marketing and communications roles at Capital University. Cooper earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University, and has attended classes at The Fund Raising School at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy in Indianapolis. Cooper received the William Oxley Thompson Award for career achievement by young alumni from The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and he has received two Circle of Excellence Gold Awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
Weiner has served in numerous alumni relations and advancement roles at Ohio Dominican for nearly 20 years. She most recently served as Director of Alumni Relations and Advocacy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Cross Disciplinary Studies, with minors in Theology, Journalism and Communications from Ohio Dominican.
Brockman has served as Manager of Media Relations and University Communications at ODU since 2012. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, and a Master of Business Administration from Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio. He also spent nearly a decade as a television news reporter, working in the Greenville, North Carolina market and at WCMH-TV in Columbus.
