As a member of OhioLINK, ODU Library is excited to announce the rollout of some new online resources in spring semester, including JoVE video textbook and lab manual databases. We now have access to the JoVE online core video textbook and lab manual databases for Chemistry and Biology, as well as the core video textbook database for social
- JoVE Core Biology
- JoVE Core Chemistry
- JoVE Core Social Psychology
- JoVE Lab Manual Biology
- JoVE Lab Manual Chemistry
In the Core databases, video textbooks are available for introductory courses and can serve as effective primary or supplementary teaching resources. Key concepts are brought to life through high-impact animations and scientist-in-action videos
of experiments conducted in laboratory settings.
In the Lab Manual databases, you'll find curriculum-focused video resources that support teaching and learning of commonly taught introductory labs. Three separate videos with step-by-step instructions for each lab experiment illustrate lab preparations
for instructors, key theoretical concepts, and a protocol for students.
How to Access these Resources
These are all available through the library's A-Z Databases. You can also find the new biology and chemistry resources in the Biology and Chemistry Research Guides alongside other sources for images and videos.
In all cases, this 2-year database access will be available through December 31, 2022.
Tip: First-time users to a JoVE database will need to sign in with their ODU email and create a free personal account, including a password. Afterward, you can then log on with your ODU email and your personal password, which will be good across the JoVE
Support for Faculty
Faculty, you can learn more about these resources and how they might be of benefit to your students with this JoVE brochure. Free training in the JoVE products is available as well: register for a free support webinar
(available weekly, Thursdays at 9.30 a.m. EST), or if you prefer, you can schedule a faculty support webinar session for a group by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information and options, including integrating videos into your online course, visit JoVE's Faculty Resource Center.
Ohio Dominican University's reference librarians are currently undergoing training in the JoVE databases as well and will be able to assist faculty in navigating through the databases as well in the near future.
And if you have any questions about adding a video into your course in PantherLearn, please contact Ohio Dominican University's PantherLearning team.
Made Possible by ODU Library, OhioLINK, and GEER
The JoVE products are one set of the resources that the library staff are making available this semester to the ODU community as a result of funding through OhioLINK and GEER, the Ohio Governor’s Emergency Education Relief funds, which are part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, federal economic aid authorized in response to
the COVID-19 pandemic. OhioLINK has been awarded $2.5 million in GEER funds through the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support the education community during this public health emergency.
