Bob Gibson Joins ODU as Director of Bands
COLUMBUS, OH - Robert (Bob) M. Gibson is beginning his first year as Director of Bands at Ohio Dominican University and is in his 26th year of teaching bands. At ODU, he will direct the marching and concert band programs. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at Ohio Dominican University, Mr. Gibson also teaches music at Karrer Middle School in Dublin, Ohio.
In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Gibson served with the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps for 4 years as a section player, Music Theory instructor and soprano bugle soloist. He also served five years with the 122nd Ohio Army National Guard Band as the assistant conductor, music librarian, trumpet section leader and director of the Army Brass Quintet. Mr. Gibson earned his BMUS from Ohio University in 1980 and his M.Ed. from Ashland University in 2004. In November of 2004, he was presented with the Golden Shamrock Award, the first awarded to any Dublin Jerome High School teacher. In May 2009, he led the Symphonic Band to the National Championship of the High School On-Line Concert Band Adjudicated Competition.
Mr. Gibsons many professional memberships include the American School Band Directors Association, National Band Association, Ohio Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, High School Band Directors National Association, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi. He performs regularly with the Worthington Civic Band, and plays trumpet throughout the Columbus area. Mr. Gibson resides in Dublin with his wife, Debbie, sons Chris and Brian.
