Centennial Celebration - Founders Day 2010
Columbus, Ohio (43219) - On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, Ohio Dominican University launched a 20-month-long celebration to honor its Centennial year in 2011. The university’s 100-year founding date is October 5, 2011. The university community and community members particpated in a noon Mass in Christ the King Chapel in Sansbury Hall, celebrated by Bishop Frederick F. Campbell. Immediately following the Mass there was a blessing of ODU’s new Centennial Plaza, located next to Battelle Hall. Following the blessing of Centennial Plaza, Founders Day activities concluded with a Dedication Ceremony for Ohio Dominican University’s new historical marker. The ceremony was conducted outside Erskine Hall near the oval. In addition to commemorating the University’s 100 years of quality teaching and learning, the marker pays tribute to two Dominican Sisters who helped lead the University in its first two decades, Mother Vincentia Erskine, for whom Erskine Hall is named, and Mother Stephanie Mohun.
State Senator Ray Miller and State Representative Carlton Weddington presented proclamations at the Dedication Ceremony. In addition to President Peter Cimbolic, presided over the ceremony, participants included Father John Boll, O.P., Director of Campus Ministry; Sister Margaret Ormond, O.P., Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Peace; Sister Maria Cirello, O.P. member of Ohio Dominican University’s Board of Trustees; Sister Catherine Colby, O.P., Ed.D., Vice President for Mission and Identity; Professor Ron Carstens, Ph.D. and Professor Emeritus Sister Ruth Caspar, O.P.; Jim Layden, Director of Library Services; Nancy Recchie ’73, President of ODU’s Alumni Association; and ODU student Kevin McIntyre.
