• What Study Abroad Alumni Are Saying!

My trip to Paris was truly a life changing experience. It's going to be one of those defining events of my college career that I never forget. I'm so thankful to have been blessed with the opportunity to participate in such an amazing trip!"

-Shannon nadler, Paris May term program

" Studying abroad has been one of the best experiences of my life!  Without the helping hands and listening ears of the international office at ODU I would not have had such a life changing experience.  ODU was with me every step of the way checking up on me when I made it to Italy easing my transition to my month abroad. My favorite part about Rome was definitely Vatican City, it was gorgeous in every way. I also really loved how expressive and emotional the people were, they were so welcoming."

-Carmela Severino, Rome Summer program with aifs

“ODU offers incredible and life changing experiences through their study abroad programs. My study abroad experiences gave me the opportunity to grow and discover who I am. They enriched my faith life and opened my eyes to other possibilities and cultures. I have learned that there are no limits; your first or fifth time out of the country assures you of this. Each college student must study abroad at least once. It adds so much to the college experience as a whole; abroad experiences offer so much more than a classroom experience ever could.”

-Amanda Zurface, Rome semester program with cea & El Salvador spring break service immersion

"I have to admit that studying abroad was a bit terrifying at first, but looking back, I realize it's the highlight of my college career. Instead of hearing about the life and culture over seas, I lived it and it was fantastic! Some things just cannot be taught through a textbook, and the experiences through studying abroad opened my eyes to more than I ever could have imagined. These memories are irreplaceable and I can't wait to travel again!"

-Allison Collins, England, Sevilla and Kenya

“Studying abroad made my self-confidence sky- rocket. Other than my first semester at college, I had never lived away from home before. All of a sudden I was living in another country, on another continent, across an ocean from my family and everything I had ever known. I grew up a lot, became much more independent, and I now realize I can do anything I set my mind to. It made me realize what responsibility really means. I wouldn't’t trade the experience for anything in the world!”

    -Marci McAndrews, Australia

"Exploring a new culture, especially one completely different from western countries, was exhilarating to say the least. Every time I left my dorm, I learned something either by overhearing a conversation between locals or observing how things were done and taught in the university. It was a true adventure and in many cases, words could not describe how I felt. Coming back to the U.S. after nearly three months in central China was a separate challenge in itself. The world as I saw it was changed and I no longer looked at life through the “Ohio” lens. I felt encouraged by my experience and more importantly, hungry to learn more.

If I could do it all over again, I would not change a thing. To be honest, taking advantage of a school-sponsored study abroad program is an experience of a lifetime that is lost upon graduation. At that stage of my life, being able to see different cultures and customs with my own eyes was something others only talk about but I was able to live it."
