Ohio Dominican University's Middle Childhood Education program prepares the teacher education candidate for an Ohio teaching license in middle childhood teaching for grades four through nine. Studies include the general education core, a wide range of professional education courses, and a concentration in two areas of content, including Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies. Students are provided opportunities to participate in extensive field-based experiences in diverse middle childhood settings prior to student teaching. It is the nature of this program to integrate theory, practice and educational technology as the candidate gradually is inducted into the middle childhood teaching profession. The program aims to develop reflective, problem-solving, caring teachers who have the knowledge, professional competencies and dispositions to be effective middle childhood professionals.
