• Prerequisite Coursework

    Applicants must complete the following minimum prerequisites coursework prior to matriculation for admission to the program. 

    It is recommended that applicants complete all prerequisite coursework within eight years of matriculation to Ohio Dominican’s Physician Assistant Studies program (with exception of the humanities).

    All prerequisite coursework must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. It is recommended that the majority of academic work be completed prior to application. All prerequisite courses must be taken at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

    Four humanities courses: examples include English, Foreign Language, Art, History, Music, etc.  12

    *Cannot combine Biochemistry with Organic Chemistry. Courses must be taken separately.

    **Examples of additional Biology courses accepted: Principles/Foundations of Biology I and II, Genetics, Pathophysiology, Immunology, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology. 

    Additional Information

    Preference will be given to students with further coursework at the undergraduate or graduate level, including but not limited to genetics, immunology, additional physiology, pathophysiology, or pharmacology.

    Preference will also be given to current Ohio residents, graduates of Ohio Dominican University, those with significant health care experience, and those who have served in our nation's armed forces.

    There is no waiver of courses or advanced standing in the program.

    Students are required to successfully pass a medical terminology examination administered shortly after the program begins in the first semester. 

    To prepare for this examination, students are strongly advised to study and complete the latest edition of Medical Terminology: A short course, by Davi-Ellen Chabner, WB Saunder Co. Publishing. Students will not advance in the program until they pass this examination.
