Summer 2012
STUDENTS: All new students are required to choose one of the overnight orientation programs listed. All 3 programs follow the same format and will prepare new students for the best possible experience in your first college year.
- Day 1 begins with your arrival on campus between 4:30pm-6:00pm and an opportunity to move into the residence hall, get ID pictures, stop at the bookstore, meet your Peer Advisor, have dinner with other new students and their families, and begin your orientation activities
- Day 2 provides exciting workshops and community-building activities, time to confirm your course schedule for fall, meet faculty, advisors, and coaches, and hear about important academic, personal, vocational, and co-curricular opportunities at ODU. Your entire orientation program ends on the second day at 3:00pm.
PARENTS: Parents also have a 2-day orientation program which coincides with the student’s. Parents have the option of driving to and from the orientation events, staying overnight in a local hotel, or staying on campus in Lynam Hall. Parents have an important gathering on the first evening to learn about how to help their students thrive in the first year, followed by a wonderful reception which concludes at 8:30pm. On Day 2, parents will participate in a wide-variety of workshop sessions ranging from “Life in the Residence Halls” to “Supporting Your Student-Athlete” to “A Faculty member’s Guide to First-Year Success”. There will also be time to learn about financial aid issues textbooks, meal plans, and other campus life issues.
