The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers
of Other Languages (MATESOL) program prepares
competent and caring teachers. Based on language,
culture, instruction, assessment, and professionalism,
the program also prepares students to be consumers
and producers of research into the teaching and
learning of English.

The MATESOL program prepares students to be competent, caring teachers of English to speakers of other languages (ESOL). It is based on national standards and combines theory and practice. Graduates have been very successful in finding full-time work in the field. The program offers several options in an adult-friendly format, including the MA, the TESOL Multi-Age License, and/or the TESOL Endorsement.

Facts about the Program

• Ohio Dominican’s MATESOL program is based on
   TESOL/NCATE standards.
• Students conduct extensive field experiences at various sites,
   including public schools and community-based programs. This
   allows them to apply  their classroom learning and gain experience
   with all age levels.
• Graduates have been very successful finding full-time work in Ohio
   and around the world.
• Ohio Dominican is the only university in Ohio to offer the initial
   license in TESOL.
• All courses are offered between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to accommodate
   working adults.
• Ohio Dominican’s small campus allows for small class sizes and
   personal attention from professors.
• Students who take two courses per term can complete the
   program in as few as two years.

Faculty Highlights

Timothy Micek, D.A. 

Timothy Micek, D.A., has taught ESL and has directed the TESOL program since 2004. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented papers at state, national and international conferences. He serves on the Ohio TESOL Board of Directors and the Ohio ESL Advisory Committee. 

 

Michelle Regalla, Ph.D.

Michelle Regalla, Ph.D., has 10 years of public school teaching experience in grades K-12. She also has taught at the adult level. She is published in the TESOL Journal and has presented at international conferences, such as TESOL, ACTFL and AERA.
