ODU Welcomes Bishop Campbell
February 16, 2005
Ohio Dominican University sponsored a welcoming reception on February
16 in the Colonial Room of Sansbury Hall in honor of the most Reverend
Frederick F. Campbell, Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus.
The reception was attended by students, faculty, staff, alumni/ae,
friends and guests of the university who had the opportunity to personally
welcome the new Bishop to the Columbus community. Bishop Campbell is the
former auxiliary bishop of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocese, and
was installed as the Columbus diocese's new bishop on January 13.
He succeeds Bishop James A. Griffin, who led the diocese for 22 years.
At the reception, ODU President Jack Calareso said, "Ohio Dominican
University is pleased to welcome Bishop Frederick F. Campbell as the 11th
Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Columbus. As the only Catholic
university in the Diocese, we look forward to working with Bishop Campbell
to develop collaborative programs and initiatives that promote quality
Catholic education, especially higher education, for students in central
Ohio and beyond. Bishop Campbell's background as a teacher and a scholar
prepares him well for being at home on our campus ... a place where he
will always be welcome."
