Father Donald J. Goergen, O.P. to Speak at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University will feature Fr. Donald J. Goergen, O.P.
in February as part of the University's Center for Dominican Studies' Dominican Lecture
Series.
The well-known Dominican preacher, teacher, lecturer, author and theologian will
present "Challenges for Colleges and Universities in the New Millennium: A Dominican
Perspective" on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in The Little Theatre in Erskine
Hall.
Dr. Karen Holbrook, President, The Ohio State University; Thomas Noe, Chair of the
Ohio Board of Regents; Mike Curtin, President and Associate Publisher, The Columbus
Dispatch; and ODU President Jack P. Calareso will serve as panelists.
Fr. Goergen has taught Christology and spirituality in the United States, Africa and
Asia, and is a former prior provincial of the Dominican friars of the Central Province
in the United States. He is a member of the Friends of God Dominican Ashram Community in
Kenosha, Wisconsin, a community with intense spiritual practices, with particular emphasis
on the practice of silence, simplistic living, and the value of interreligous practice and
openness to all religious traditions.
Fr. Goergen's lecture, "Challenges for Colleges and Universities in the New Millennium:
A Dominican Perspective" will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2004, in
The Little Theatre in Erskine Hall located on ODU's main campus at 1216 Sunbury Road. Free
parking is available in the Visitor's Lot west of Sunbury Road. The lecture is free and

This event is part of the Dominican Lecture Series and is sponsored by the Center for
Dominican Studies. The Mission of the Center for Dominican Studies is to promote the
Dominican charism of preaching; to provide opportunities for members of the University
and the community to understand and experience the meaning and value of Dominican
education; and, to serve as a public voice at the University and in the community
regarding issues of importance to church, culture and society. The Center focuses on
the Dominican motto: "to contemplate truth and share with others the fruits of this
contemplation" and the four pillars of Dominican life: study, prayer, community and
ministry.
