Ohio Dominican's New Summer Schedule Offers Flexibility
December 13, 2005
COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University’s new innovative summer schedule offers students more flexibility in earning additional credit hours.
Three significant changes have been introduced to the summer term: a two-week course offering in May; variable credit options for selected courses; and shorter summer terms for specific classes.
A variety of four credit-hour courses are available for ODU students to take for a two-week session in May. The classes will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. “We saw an opportunity to do something different for our students,” said Dr. Mary Todd, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “As a result of the new summer schedule, they can complete a course and still be available for summer internships and employment.”
Another change to the summer term includes variable credit options for selected courses. ODU’s classes are typically four credit hours, but some students, particularly students from other institutions, may only need three credit hours. Offering the variable credits affords the student flexibility in paying only for the credit hours they need. Specific classes will be offered with the option of receiving three or four credit hours. Assignments will vary depending on which credit option a student chooses.
The third change to the summer schedule shortens several of the regular summer term courses to four or six weeks in length instead of the typical eight-week term, affording more flexibility and accessibility to students.
