ODU Features Dominican Artist Thoma Swanson, O.P.

Columbus, OH - Ohio Dominican University welcomes Dominican Sister of St. Mary of the Springs and scholar Thoma Swanson, O.P. as she presents Holy
Preaching, Holy Art, Thursday, November 17, 2005, at 7:30pm in the LVC Auditorium of Spangler Learning Center located on ODU’s main
campus, 1216 Sunbury Road.
Sr. Swanson is a renowned Dominican artist, scholar and teacher, who has devoted her life to
preaching the gospel through her artwork. She most recently received the 2005 Fra Angelico Award, given
annually by the Dominican Institute for the Arts to the member who most represents the ideals and
practices of the Institute.
Swanson’s art ranges from woodcuts to paintings, from murals to tapestries, but she’s most known for her
stain glass windows. Churches in Cincinnati, New Haven and Port Richey have windows fashioned by Swanson, as well as the St.
Mary of the Springs Chapel in Columbus.
Swanson earned her Masters degree in School Administration from Pratt Institute, her Master of Arts from the
University of Notre Dame, and her Bachelor of Arts in Art from Cardinal Stritch College, WI.
