Sr. Carol Dempsey, O.P., to be Featured in Dominican Life of the Mind Series

COLUMBUS, OH – Carol Dempsey, O.P., Ph.D., assistant professor of Biblical Studies and Theology at the University of Portland (OR), will speak at Ohio Dominican University on Thursday, February 9, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. in the Spangler Learning Center, as part of the University’s Dominican Life of the Mind Series. The lecture is entitled The Dominican Charism and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition: A Common Search for Truth.”

Sponsored by ODU’s Center for Dominican Studies, the Dominican Life of the Mind Series provides occasions for the community to gather to reflect upon the ideas and events that shape our culture.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Spangler Learning Center is located on Ohio Dominican University’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus. Free parking is available in the Visitor’s Lot, west of Sunbury Road

Sr. Dempsey received her Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America in 1994. She has published articles on both ethical and ecological issues in relation to the prophets and other biblical texts. Her recent books include: All Creation is Groaning:: An Interdisciplinary Vision for Life in a Sacred Universe; Hope Amid the Ruins; The Ethics of Israel’s Prophets: A Liberation Critical Reading, as well as a commentary on Isaiah 1-39 (forthcoming).

The Center for Dominican Studies was established through a generous gift by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs. The Center was founded on the ideals of promoting Dominican preaching and education and becoming a public voice of the University and community regarding issues of importance to church, culture and society.
