Ohio Dominican Welcomes Author Linda Mizejewski

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University is pleased to present Dr. Linda Mizejewski, author and Chair of Women’s Studies at The Ohio State University, as the featured speaker for the University’s annual Monsignor Leonard J. Fick Literary Brunch on Sunday, April 2, 2006 from noon to 2:00 p.m. The brunch, which honors the late Ohio Dominican faculty member, will be in the Colonial Room of Sansbury Hall on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road.
Dr. Mizejewski specializes in film and cultural studies, with a focus on women and gender. She is the author of two books about women performers: Divine Decadence: Fascism, Female Spectacle, and the Makings of Sally Bowles (Princeton UP, 1992), and Ziegfeld Girl: Image and Icon in Culture and Cinema (Duke, 1999). Her latest book is Hardboiled & High Heeled: the Woman Detective in Popular Culture (Routledge, 2004), a study of the female investigator character in cinema, television, and best-selling novels.
She has been a Fulbright Lecturer in Slovakia and Romania, and her research has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the Fulbright Foundation. In 2003 she was a recognized by OSU as the recipient of its Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Monsignor Leonard Fick Scholarship Fund for ODU students majoring in English. Monsignor Fick touched the lives of hundreds of young people in Columbus by instilling in them a love of literature that endures a lifetime. He taught at Ohio Dominican College from 1948 to 1969.
The brunch begins at noon and will be preceded by a Memorial Mass celebrated by Most Reverand James A. Griffin, former Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus, in Christ the King Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The Mass and literary event are open to the public. The cost for the Literary Event is $20 for adults and $10 for students.
