ODU Presents New York Times Columnist Peter Steinfels

Peter SteinfelsCOLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University’s Center for Dominican Studies will present “A Living Faith? A New Generation?,” featuring keynote speaker Peter Steinfels, Ph.D., on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the Matesich Theater on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road.

New York Times religion columnist Dr. Steinfels is co-director of The Fordham Center on Religion and Culture in New York City and author of A People Adrift, The Crisis of the Roman Catholic Church in America. He has been a visiting professor of History at Georgetown University and of American Studies at the University of Notre Dame. While teaching at Georgetown, he co-directed a three-year research project on American Catholics in the Public Square, funded by the Pew Charitable Trust.

Steinfels earned his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University and his Ph.D. in European History from Columbia University. In addition, he holds seven honorary doctorates and was the recipient of the Laetare Medal from the University of Notre Dame in 2003 for his service to the Church and society.

The Matesich Theatre is located in Erskine Hall on Ohio Dominican’s main campus.  Free parking is available in the Visitor’s Lot west of Sunbury Road.

The Center for Dominican Studies was established through a generous gift by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs. The Center promotes Dominican ideals and education and serves as a public voice of the University and community regarding issues of importance to church, culture and society.
