Ohio Dominican University Exhibition Showcases Works of Columbus Printmakers

February 3, 2006

Artwork of Joan Tallan

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University will host an artists’ reception for its newest exhibition, A Dialogue of Forms: Joan Tallan and Marjorie Bender, on Sunday, February 26 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in Wehrle Gallery. The exhibition, opening Tuesday, February 7, features the works of Joan Tallan and Marjorie Bender, two Columbus-area printmakers from Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative.

Phoenix Rising Cooperative & Gallery is located in German Village and provides printmaking facilities for trained professionals and artists, as well as those just learning printmaking techniques. Since September 1998, Phoenix has hosted regionally and nationally recognized printmakers in creating print editions and leading workshops.

Printmaker Joan Tallan lives in Columbus, and travels all over Ohio to share her love of printmaking.

"I like to work in different print media going back and forth from intaglio to relief," Tallan said. "I am interested in the marks made by tools on surfaces, the bite of the acid and the gouge of the blade. The rhythms of abstract expressionism surface in the figurative work."

The exhibition is open to the public and will be on display in the gallery through March 19, 2006. Wehrle Gallery is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is located on the main level of Wehrle Hall, on Ohio Dominican University’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road. Parking is available in the Visitors Lots directly west of Sunbury Road.
