ODU Appoints Oates as Special Assistant to the President

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University has appointed Dr. Thomas R. Oates as Special Assistant to the President for International Development.

Dr. Oates will work with the Ohio Dominican community in developing programs and initiatives related to international students, international partnerships and programs, and study and research opportunities for faculty and staff.

Prior to joining Ohio Dominican, Oates had a distinguished career in higher education. He served as President of both Rocky Mountain College (Billings, Montana) and Spalding University (Louisville, KY). He is the past chairman and a current member of the board of directors of the International Student Exchange Program in Washington, D.C. and has extensive experience in recruiting students from around the world. He has also served as an academic administrator, dean and faculty member.

Dr. Oates earned a bachelor’s degree in English; a master’s degree in English; and a Ph.D. in American Literature, all from St. Louis University. He is a resident of Clintonville.
