Village to Child Hosts Steppin N2 Success Conference

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican’s Village to Child program will host the Steppin’ N 2 Success Conference and High School Step Showcase on Saturday, June 3 at Ohio Dominican University.

The Steppin’ N 2 Success Conference runs from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the Ohio Dominican University campus, 1216 Sunbury Road. Free parking is available in the Visitors Lot next to Alumni Hall, west of Sunbury Road.

The conference focuses on college preparation, college scholarships, self-marketing and financial aid. A parent session is also offered.  The workshops are free and open to any high school student, and lunch will be provided. To register, call 251-4528. The conference is a collaborative effort between Mayor Michael Coleman’s Education Office, Ohio Dominican’s Village to Child program, the National Pan Hellenic Council and the National Association of Sunbury Road.

The V.I.P. High School Step Showcase will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the Matesich Theatre located in Erskine Hall, also on ODU’s main campus. The showcase is open to the public. Admission is $10, but workshop attendees can attend for $5. Proceeds from the showcase will be used to support the NPHC Unity Scholarship Fund and Ohio Dominican’s Village to Child program.

Village to Child is an academic program designed to raise the educational achievement levels of middle and high school students who live in the neighborhoods which surround ODU‘s main campus. Village to Child participants come to the campus one to three days per week to participate in programs focused on science, reading, math, the arts, and technology. Village to Child also provides a six-week college preparatory summer program, through which students receive tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment. ODU students and exemplary high school students are recruited to serve as mentors and tutors.
