COLUMBUS , OHIO -- Ohio Dominican University has confirmed that President Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D will leave the university at the end of June to assume the presidency of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts.
In an announcement to the university community, President Calareso said, “The past six years have been an extraordinary experience as we have worked together to transform Ohio Dominican into the healthy, vital and well-respected university that it is today. The board remains fully committed to the Path to Preeminence and the university is poised to continue its growth and development in the future. The strength of this university will always be the faculty, staff and administrators who serve the mission and values of Ohio Dominican. It has been an honor to serve the Ohio Dominican community and be your colleague.”
Anna Maria College , a private, Catholic, co-educational college, was founded by the Sisters of Saint Anne in 1946. Anna Maria offers a liberal arts curriculum and undergraduate and graduate degree programs in more than 20 academic majors.
“Dr. Calareso’s vision and proven leadership experience will be critical in helping Anna Maria College move to new heights,” said Sr. Yvette Bellerose, S.S.A. chair of the Anna Maria College Board of Trustees. “Dr. Calareso cherishes the Catholic tradition in higher education. The vision of the founding Sisters of St. Anne was for an institution of higher learning with a curriculum rooted in the liberal arts that instilled in its students intellectual inquiry and integrity, a commitment to peace and justice and a strong sense of community and service to others.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Calareso has served in a series of positions ranging from elementary to higher education; from superintendent of diocesan schools to college president. His experience and longstanding dedication has led to his recognition as a leader in Catholic education.
“Jack Calareso has provided outstanding leadership to Ohio Dominican as it moves to establish itself as a preeminent Catholic university,” said Monsignor Joseph Hendricks, Chair of the Ohio Dominican University Board of Trustees. “The Board of Trustees has fully supported Jack and his strategy for Ohio Dominican over the past six years, and he will be deeply missed. However, we also recognize his desire to bring his talents and leadership ability to another highly respected Catholic higher education institution, and we wish him every blessing as he moves into the next phase of his life and career.”
The course of action the university will take to find a new president will be determined at the next Executive Committee meeting of the ODU Board of Trustees in early April, Monsignor Hendricks said.
