Ohio Dominican Heads to NAIA Football Championships

COLUMBUS, OH – The #3 ranked Ohio Dominican football team, in just four short years, concluded a perfect regular season with an 11-0 record earning a MSFA – Mideast League title and will host the Cumberlands (KY) in their first ever playoff game.   The Panthers and Patriots are scheduled to play their first round game of the 2007 NAIA Championship Series on Saturday, November 17th at Panther Field.   Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

 

The Panthers enter the game with an unblemished record after knocking off Malone (OH) last Saturday 31-21.   With the victory ODU finishes 7-0 in the conference and earns their first MSFA – Mideast League Championship in school history.

 

The Cumberlands comes in ranked #17 in this weeks NAIA poll and an 8-2 overall record.   The Cumberlands finished tied for first in the Mid-South Conference East Division this season with a 4-1 record. 

The Patriots feature the two headed running attack of Moses Cochran and Ricky Walker that helped the Cumberlands to an average of 285.4 yards on the ground per game.   The Cumberlands is averaging 30.5 points per game, while allowing 20.5 points.

"Our goal from day one was to build a team that would compete in the national play-offs," said head coach Dale Carlson.   "We were close last year.   Now that we've made it into the final 16 everyone associated is looking forward to the challenge of playing a very fine University of the Cumberland's football team Saturday at Panther Field, adds Carlson.
