Panthers Advance in NAIA Football Championship
November 19, 2007

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 ranked Ohio Dominican football team showed little signs of having any post season jitters Saturday in their first-ever playoff game versus the Cumberlands (KY). ODU's dismantling of the Patriots (ODU Panthers-62, Cumberlands Patriots-35) extends the Panthers' season another week as they advance to the Football Championship Series Quarterfinals versus No. 9 Missouri Valley College.
In their first round victory the NAIA's leading offense piled up 648 yards, including 510 through the air. Junior quarterback Cris Reisert ( Cincinnati , OH ) was named the Offensive Player of the Game after tossing five touchdown passes and setting a new NAIA single season passing yardage record, breaking the previous mark of 4,885 yards held by Craig Fobbe of Morningside College . He also broke the NAIA single season total offensive yards mark of 4,944 yards held by current Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna of Central Washington . Reisert has now thrown for 5,005 yards and has 5,048 yards of total offense on the season along with 50 touchdown passes.
The Vikings are making their sixth appearance in the NAIA playoffs representing the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Missouri Valley comes in with a 9-2 overall record after finishing second in the HAAC. The Vikings advanced to the quarterfinals following a 34-21 upset of No. 8 Friends ( KS ) last week in their opening round game.
