Ohio Dominican's M.A. in Theology Program Offers Summer Ministry Courses

St. DominicCOLUMBUS – Ohio Dominican University’s Master of Arts in Theology program will offer three one-credit master’s level ministry courses this summer, for those who wish to enrich their ministerial skills and knowledge.

The courses are open to the general public, and are geared to those individuals active in religious education, lay ministry and youth ministry.  Each course is comprised of three, three-hour sessions over a period of eight days.  The cost of each course is $100 for individuals who are not currently enrolled in ODU’s Master’s in Theology program.  All sessions will be held in Erskine Hall on Ohio Dominican’s main campus at 1216 Sunbury Road.

Upon completion of a course, participants will be given a certificate of completion, which they may use to apply for continuing education units from their employers. 

THL 685d Special Topics: The Psalms in the Life of the Church
A discussion of the order, types, and meaning of the Psalms with a focus on their Christological message. Dr. Leo Madden instructs the course, which will be held Thursday, May 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 26 from 9:00 a.m. to noon; and Thursday, May 31 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

THL 685e Special Topics: Latin for Reading Knowledge   
An introduction to the study of Latin for the non-specialist.  The course will familiarize students with the basic tools of Latin translation and give students practice with a wide range of Latin texts – from Aquinas to Cat in the Hat. Dr. Matthew Ponesse will instruct the course, which will be held Thursday, June 21 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 23 from 9:00 a.m. to noon; and Thursday, June 28 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

THL 685f Special Topics: Retreat Planning                             
An introduction to the process of planning and leading retreat experiences; an overview of various retreat types, formats and spiritual traditions as well as practical tools, skills and resources to implement in retreat development.  A detailed retreat planning process will be presented and practiced. Kathleen Ryzenga will instruct the course, which will be held Thursday, July 19 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 21 from 9:00 a.m. to noon; and Thursday, July 26 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Ohio Dominican’s Master of Arts in Theology program is a holistic course of study that helps one develop the personal and professional skills needed for effective church ministry.  Although focused on the needs of current and future lay ministers in the Catholic Church, the program is open to non-Catholics, ordained ministers and students preparing for doctoral study in Theology.
