Ohio Dominican Grants Tenure and/or Promotion to Faculty

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University is pleased to announce the following faculty have been promoted and/or granted tenure for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Theresa Holleran
Theresa Holleran, Ph.D., has been promoted to Full Professor of Computer Science, effective with the 2007-2008 academic year. 

Recently honored for her 20 years of service to Ohio Dominican, Dr. Holleran holds a  bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Ohio Dominican College;   a master’s degree in Computer Science from Bowling Green State University; and a  Ph.D. in Education from The Ohio State University.

In 1986, after serving as a graduate teaching assistant at Bowling Green, Dr. Holleran came to Ohio Dominican University. She has been affiliated with numerous professional associations and has written many publications.

Dr. Holleran is a resident of Clintonville.


John Marazita
Dr. John Marazita has been promoted to Full Professor of Psychology, effective with the 2007-2008 academic year. 

Dr. Marazita came to Ohio Dominican University in 1995 following a visiting professorship at Muskingum College. He earned his B.A. from the University of Akron and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Kent State University in experimental psychology with a specialization in cognitive development. He is currently a member of the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Research in Child Development. His research addresses metacognitive contributions to young children’s language development and preschoolers’ auditory processing of music and language.

At ODU, Dr. Marazita supervises undergraduate research and serves as the Psychology Club advisor and advisor to The Experimentalists, a group of students interested in furthering the science of psychology. He teaches child and adolescent development, adult development and aging, applied cognitive psychology, cognitive processes, a senior capstone seminar on current issues in the discipline, and introduction to psychology.

Dr. Marazita resides in Columbus with his wife, Laurel, and daughters, Annie and Carrie.


Kathleen Riley
Kathleen Riley, Ph.D. has been promoted to Full Professor, effective with the 2007-2008 academic year. 

Dr. Riley, an associate professor of History, holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Nazareth College of Rochester, and a master’s degree in History and Ph.D. in History, both from the University of Notre Dame. She teaches a variety of history and humanities courses at Ohio Dominican, including a course on American Religious History which focuses on Fulton J. Sheen as a major figure in the Post World War II Religious Revival in the United States. In addition to teaching at ODU, Dr. Riley returns to her native western New York roots during the summer months, and offers a course in American Religion at Canisius College in Buffalo. She has also published a book about her hometown: Lockport: Historic Jewel of the Erie Canal. (Arcadia, 2005).

Dr. Riley is a member of the Cause for the Canonization of Fulton Sheen, Diocese of Peioria and is serving as the higher education consultant on the Teaching American History Grant, funded by the Department of Education. The project, Hands On History, is part of a consortium which includes the Ohio Historical Society, the Educational Services Center of Franklin County and Ohio Dominican University.

Dr. Riley is a resident of Gahanna.


Timothy Walker
Dr. Timothy Walker has been granted tenure and has been promoted to Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems, effective with the 2007-2008 academic year. 

Walker has been an Ohio Dominican faculty member since 2001. He received a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Psychology from Carnegie Mellon, and a Ph.D in Psychology at The Ohio State University.

Prior to coming to Ohio Dominican, he taught at Capital University. Dr. Walker's research interests include the quantitative study of music performance, mathematical and statistical modeling, neural networks, and computer modeling of cognitive processes. His projects utilize a combination of disciplines, including computer programming, statistical analysis, music theory, and cognitive science. Dr. Walker currently teaches a number of courses, including computer networking, database management, statistics, and quantitative reasoning. 

Dr. Walker is a resident of Grandview, Ohio.


Jay Young
Jay Young, Ph.D. has been granted tenure and been promoted to Associate Professor, effective for the 2007-2008 academic year. 

Dr. Young, Chair of the Division of Business and Associate Professor of Management and Leadership, previously served as the Director of the Leadership Center at Texas Christian University.  

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Educational Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University; a master’s degree in Management and Administrative Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas; a master’s degree in Counseling and Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership, both from The Ohio State University. Dr. Young is licensed in Ohio as a Professional Clinical Counselor and is certified in a number of management, leadership, personality, and communication instruments including the Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. He serves on the advisory board of the Family Business Center of Central Ohio and the C.G. Jung Association of Central Ohio.

He and his wife, DeAnn and their sons Brandon and Keenan are residents of Worthington, Ohio.
