COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University student Kristen Gillman, a senior graphic design major from Westerville, Ohio, will be recognized as one of six finalists for the 2008 Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AICUO) Award for Excellence in Visual Arts (EVA) Grand Award on April 21, 2008. The AICUO ceremony will take place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Colonial Room of Sansbury Hall on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road. This event is not open to the public and RSVPs are required.
At the April 21 event, the AICUO judging panel will award a grand prize winner from one of the six finalists and a People’s Choice Award will also be distributed based on the most popular votes taken from an online public voting event.
“I would feel extremely flattered and surprised if I were voted for the People’s Choice Award,” said Gillman. “The staff here at ODU has influenced me phenomenally in all of my artwork. My style originally started in my photography class sophomore year with Professor Hayakawa. He was always supportive and encouraged me to go after my goals in the class, even when we both knew they were going to be hard to accomplish.”
The AICUO EVA is awarded to seniors who have been nominated by their department chair or dean. These seniors possess and demonstrate artistic excellence over the span of their four years of study at their colleges. In a first round of judging done by Ohio independent college art faculty, the six award finalists were selected. The finalists will have their works presented at the April ceremony.
