Biography: Robert Franz, Associate Professor of Secondary Education, obtained his B.A. degree from St. Charles College with a major in Philosophy and a minor in the classical languages of Latin and Greek. He entered the teaching profession in 1962, teaching high school World History, Ethics, and Biology. Later he obtained a M.A.T. from Michigan State University on a National Science Foundation Grant, concentrating in Biology Education. He came to Ohio Dominican University in the fall of 1972 as a member of the Education Department. Here he taught Early Experience, Secondary Methods, Science Methods, Educational Psychology, and supervised Student Teachers. During this time he also did Ph.D. studies at The Ohio State University in Curriculum and Instruction, with emphasis in Supervision and Educational Psychology.

His work at Ohio Dominican University has centered around writing and developing the secondary teacher education program to meet state and national teacher preparation standards as well as work with adjunct faculty, supervise student teachers, teach courses and advise students. He was nominated by his academic dean for the Booth Ferris Outstanding Teacher Award in 2000.

Professor Franz is married to Roberta J. Baum and, together, they have four sons. Professor and Mrs. Franz have extensive travel experience throughout the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, and Western Europe.
