The Honors Program
The Ohio Dominican University Honors Program is designed to enrich
the academic experience of talented and motivated students. It is a community of learners
who develop their love of learning, deepen their understanding of significant issues,
express their creativity, and engage in independent scholarly, scientific, and artistic
endeavors.
Through challenging learning experiences and entertaining cultural opportunities, the
program fosters critical thinking, intellectual inquiry, and an appreciation for arts and
culture. In addition, ODU's Honors Program is an excellent foundation for students who
may continue on to graduate school.
In keeping with the spirit of Ohio Dominican University's mission statement, "To
contemplate truth and to share with others the fruits of this contemplation," the
Honors Program also encourages students to interact with others collegially, grow
spiritually, and participate actively in their communities.

The Ohio Dominican University Honors Program requires the completion of four
Honors courses and a Senior Honors
Thesis Project.
Participation in the Honors Program provides unique opportunities not available to
other students. Honors courses are small, taught by Honors faculty, and designed to
stimulate creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and analytical skills. Additionally,
there are opportunities to have a great time. Honors students enjoy special events, and are
frequently invited to attend VIP receptions with dignitaries and speakers who come to
campus. Honors students receive a great deal of mentoring, guidance, and companionship
throughout their time at Ohio Dominican . The Senior Honors Project enables a student
to work closely with a faculty member on a significant piece of work, and frequently
serves as a springboard to graduate or professional school, as well as satisfying
employment.
The Honors Program at Ohio Dominican University is designed to specifically challenge
and engage high-ability motivated students. The curriculum and the program will provide
learning experiences that:
- Explore the integration of concepts within and among disciplines
- Empower students to become intentional learners
- Engage students actively in the learning process
- Encourage students to interact with faculty and with one another, both inside
and outside the classroom
- Emphasize depth and thoroughness of understanding

The Honors Program plans a variety of activities throughout the school year including
performances, scholarly presentations, open mike poetry readings, writing groups, films,
discussions and pizza parties. Often, students will join in informal discussions with
professors on topics ranging from cartoons to chromosomes.
Ohio Dominican University is proud to offer a residence hall dedicated to the community
of scholars in its Honors Residence Hall. Siena Hall provides an atmosphere conducive to
study, creativity, and collaboration among the Honors students who live there. Activities
such as field trips to cultural events, discussions, and movies are offered, and students
are also encouraged to develop programming of their own. This is a unique opportunity that
Honors students should not miss.
