Majors at Ohio Dominican
Philosophy
While every student at Ohio Dominican University attains an understanding of and commitment to the University's motto: "To contemplate Truth and to share with others the fruits of this contemplation," Philosophy and Theology majors live out this maxim on a daily basis as they consider the great questions and mysteries of human life. Philosophy majors wonder "What is God?” “What is beauty?” “How can I be a moral person in today's business world?"
Philosophy students build a foundation upon which they view and reason with the world while constructing sound ideas and forming analytical skills. Philosophy students gain familiarity with the works of Plato and Aristotle; the writings of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz and Kant; and the thinking of Aquinas, Augustine and medieval Muslim philosophers. By sharing insights, opinions and experiences with one another, students also come to respect and value diverse cultures and faith traditions. Ohio Dominican Philosophy graduates are ready to take their place in a variety of professions that include politics, health care, business, ministry, education, social work and more. Many choose to continue their studies in graduate school.
