ODU's Integrated Language Arts Education program prepares you to teach English Literature and Composition in grades 7-12.
Program highlights:
  • Major leads to teaching licensure.
  • Licensure-only option for students who already have a bachelor's degree
  • In addition to critical reading and writing skills, students learn to make connections between literature and the world around them.
  • Students learn through hands-on experience, spending more than 450 hours in the classroom during the program.

    Kappa Delta Pi 
    Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) is an International Honor Society in Education, whose purpose is to connect future educators with each other and other education advocates. KDP strives to reach out to the community through education by volunteering, fundraising, and organizing events.

    Ohio Student Education Association
    All ODU Education majors are invited to join the Ohio Student Education Association (OSEA), a pre-professional organization for students preparing for careers in education. 

    Current students are part of the Ohio Education Association, which representing more than 128,000 members in the state. The Association actively supports public education reform and teacher licensure.

  • Sigma Tau Delta & Gesture

    ODU's English Department sponsors one of the most active student organizations on campus, the English Honors society, Sigma Tau Delta.

    In addition to many activities throughout the year, Sigma Tau Delta publishes the award-winning ODU literary journal, Gesture

    Through the journal, students learn about the publishing, editing and creative writing fields. They are also invited to attend the national Sigma conference where they network with other English majors, faculty and writers.

    Through the Dominican Scholars program, ODU offers education students extended leadership, learning and community services opportunities.
