Distinguished Alumni/ae

Yukiko Abe

Yukiko Abe came to Ohio Dominican as a non-traditional student - not only was she an international student, but she was also an adult already in possession of an Associate of Arts degree in TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages) in 1982.

She is also an alumna of Ake-no Hoshi Junior College, Ohio Dominican's sister college in Aomori, Japan. She is a partner with her mother and brother in the operation of the family business, Abe Saburo Firm. She is active in education and community service. In her career, she has provided an ombudsman service to residents of Morioka dealing with City Hall, offered volunteer services in tutoring and interpreting English, and given volunteer care to the Dominican sisters in Mohun Hall.

She has been a member of National Alumni/ae Board since 1999. She has worked in her family's wholesale store selling traditional Japanese foot wear and taught English at night. She taught English at a famous junior high school part time in 1987-88; and since has taught at several other schools.
