Sister Maryanna Childs

Sister Maryanna Childs graduated from St. Mary of the Springs (now Ohio Dominican University) in 1942. She was the author of several books, countless poems and even some children's books. She received her Master's degree in English with a major in literary criticism from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. in 1948. In 1947 she began her college teaching at St. Mary of the Springs and remained teaching there for 40 years. Much of her poetry was recognized with various awards and appeared in newspapers and magazines throughout the country. When she retired from college teaching she continued with freelance writing and lecturing. In Sister Maryanna's memory, Ohio Dominican annually honors a current student with the Childs Writing Award.
