Annual Book Sale

The ODU Library Annual Book Sale is going on now through November 15. We have a variety of items for sale including books, magazines, and more. Items are locted near the main entrance of Spangler Learning Center, and prices start at $0.25. Shop early! Shop often! Sale selections change frequently, but when they're gone, they're gone!

October is Food for Fines Month!

This October, you can pay off your library fines AND contribute to help those in need all at the same time! The ODU Library is participating again in Campus Ministry’s Canned Food Drive during the month of October 2009. Acceptable items include any size cans, glass containers or jars, packages such as pasta or sauces, or boxed items such as rice or cereal. Items that are not acceptable include perishable items or items marked “Not Labeled For Retail Sale.” For each can or package of non-perishable food items donated, you can take $1.00 off your total library fines (including OhioLINK fees). The total number donated may cover the total amount of your fines OR any part of the total. We will also accept items for donation if no fines are owed, but will not apply that amount “on credit” toward future fines. Contact Circulation Services for more information.

EBSCO Influenza Information Portal

Due to Pandemic H1N1 Influenza (formerly known as Swine Flu) and concerns about the 2009/2010 flu season, the EBSCO Publishing Medical and Nursing editors of DynaMed™, Nursing Reference Center™ (NRC) and Patient Education Reference Center™ (PERC) have made key influenza information from these resources freely available to health care providers worldwide. Access the EBSCO Influenza Information Portal for more information.

OhioLINK Resource Changes

As the saying goes, "Everything is connected to everything else." This is definitely true with the state budget in Ohio. Even though Ohio Dominican University is a private institution, we both benefit from the state budget in good times and suffer during the bad times. The ODU Library budget is, in fact, intimately entangled with OhioLINK's budget (a state entity). While the final decisions have been delayed until August this year, please know that the package of resources available at our library will be changing this August. We receive many databases, electronic journals, electronic books, and more directly from OhioLINK. Your teaching and learning could potentially be impacted by the final form our portfolio of resources takes. If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Director of Library Services, Jim Layden.

JSTOR is here!
This semester the ODU Library is proud to announce our new affiliation with JSTOR, the “not–for–profit organization dedicated to helping the scholarly community discover, use, and build upon a wide range of intellectual content in a trusted digital archive.” The first collection we have purchased, the Arts & Sciences III collection, will merge with our existing print and online journal collections to bring us a more robust set of journal materials for your ready use. Arts & Sciences III includes journals in languages and literature, as well as essential titles in the fields of music, film studies, folklore, performing arts, religion, and the history and study of art and architecture. There are 150 titles in this collection. We plan to continue to add JSTOR collections that enhance the university’s academic resources well into the future. JSTOR titles are available now by connecting to JSTOR directly from our library website at Soon every title will also be available through the ODU Library Catalog. If you have any questions or comments, please ask a librarian. Enjoy!
