Business Source Complete
Access to articles in scholarly business journals in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, SWOT analyses, company profiles, and case studies; investment research, industry, market research, and country reports; and more.

 

Business and Company Resource Center
Assembles detailed company and industry news and information.  Features company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies and periodicals.

 

LexisNexis Academic
Offers news, business, legal, medical, and reference information.  Covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, court opinions, statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings Updated daily.

 

Regional Business News

Collection of newswires that incorporate information worldwide, covering business, political, economic and other diverse, international news events. In order to maintain the most current collection of news, this database contains the most recent 30 days of information from each of these wire sources.

 

Key Databases for Law, Legal Research, and News

 

GPO Monthly Catalog

Catalog of U.S. government documents from 1976 to the present. The database describes Congressional reports, hearings, debates and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments.  

 

Gongwer News Service

Provides daily coverage of issues in and around Ohio's government and political systems. Also provides coverage of every bill in the General Assembly and tracking of the activities of the executive and judicial branches and other political and policy developments.  

 

Legal Collection

Collection of scholarly peer-reviewed publications including nearly 250 scholarly law journals, documents, and case studies. Coverage focuses on the discipline of law and legal topics such as criminal justice, international law, federal law, organized crime, medical, labor & human resource law, ethics, the environment and much more.  

 

LexisNexis Academic
Offers news, business, legal, medical, and reference information.  Covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, court opinions, statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings Updated daily.

CINAHL Plus

Indexes research articles, health care books, nursing dissertations, selected conference proceedings, standards of practice, educational software, audiovisuals, and book chapters in nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health, and 17 allied health disciplines. Includes articles & news on benefits, consulting, wellness programs.

 

Communication & Mass Media Complete
CMMC offers indexing and abstracts of over 400 journals and full text for nearly 200 journals in the communication and mass media fields. Includes organizational and interpersonal communication, public relations. Coverage of some journals dates back to as early as 1915. Updated daily.

 

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition

Indexes 590 scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also featured are abstracts and indexing for over 625 journals. Coverage of nursing and allied health is particularly strong.

 

Insurance Periodicals Index

Offers access to more than 200 insurance industry journals and magazines. IPI will be useful to researchers in economics, social scientists, insurance and government organizations, and human resource management.

 

MasterFILE Premier
Offers access to more than 1,900 general reference and articles in popular magazines in the areas of business, consumer health, and general science. Updated daily.

 

PsycINFO
Contains citations and synopses of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines.  Updated weekly.

 

SocIndex
Contains information relating to the field of sociology, including articles dealing with rural & urban sociology, social development, social psychology, social structure, substance abuse, violence and many other areas of research. Includes articles in many areas of personnel management. Journals coverage ranges from 1908 to the current year.

 

Social Sciences Citation Index
Citations. Indexes articles of scholarly journals from 50 disciplines of the social sciences, with searchable author abstracts and a unique feature that enables searching of articles that cite a known author or work. Includes articles in many areas of personnel management.

 

 

Vocational and Career Collection
Offers coverage to 350 trade and industry related periodicals, including Advertising Age, Hotel and Motel Management, Restaurant Business, and American Machinist.  Articles on interviewing, resumes, compensation are also provided.

How Do You Find a Periodical in this Library?

·         Use the ODU Library Catalog to search for the title of the journal or newspaper you’re
trying to find. Choose a TITLE search and type in the title of the journal or newspaper you desire.

·         If you are looking for a specific article in a periodical, be sure to match issue number and YEAR/MONTH of the article to the information listed in our library catalog to make sure we have the specific issue of the journal/magazine you need.

 

The library's journals and magazines are located:
 
(1) In print in the Periodicals section on the top floor, arranged alphabetically by title
(2) Back issues in print (usually prior to 1960) in the Back Issues Room on the bottom floor
(3) In microfilm in cabinets behind the Periodicals section
(4) Some periodical’s current year’s issues can be found in the library’s Reading Room.
 
A microfilm reader/printer (with free printing!) is also available on the top floor.
