The United States Government Manual

From the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. Good source for policy information on agriculture and the environment. Coverage: 1970 to the present.

 

Business Source Complete

Provides indexing, abstracts, and full-text articles in scholarly journals in the areas of business, public administration, and public policy.

 

Directory of Open Access Journals

Covers free, full-text, scholarly journals in multiple disciplines, including at least journals in political science, law, sociology, and social sciences.

 

ECONLIT

Provides comprehensive information on accounting, capital markets, econometrics, economic forecasting, government regulations, labor economics, monetary theory, urban economics and more.

 

Electronic Journal Center
Presents over 4300 research journals, covering numerous subject areas, including management, economics, politics, political science, and law.

 

Environment Complete

Covers research in environmental sciences. Good source for policy information on agriculture and the environment. Coverage: 1950s to the present.

 

ERIC

ERIC is the U.S. Department of Education's Educational Resource Information Center database, which contains citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals. Good source for educational policy. Updated quarterly.

 

FRANCIS (international humanities and social sciences)
Citations only.  Cites multilingual, multidisciplinary information in the humanities, social sciences, and economics.  Updated monthly.

 

Gongwer News Service: Ohio Report  
Record of news and transactions from Ohio legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

 

GPO Monthly Catalog
Comprises U.S. government documents, incorporating Congressional reports, hearings, debates and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments. Updated monthly.

 

LexisNexis Academic

Offers news, business, legal, medical, and reference information.  Covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal and state court opinions, federal and state statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings Updated daily.

 

PAIS International
Public Affairs Information Service International database summarizes literature of public affairs, with references to journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, gray literature, research and conference reports, publications of international agencies, microfiche, Internet material, and more.  Updated monthly.

 

SocINDEX

Contains information relating to the field of sociology, including articles dealing with rural & urban sociology, social development, social psychology, and social structure. Journals coverage ranges from 1908 to the current year.

 

 

Finding Periodicals in this Library

 

How Do You Find Out if a Periodical Exists in this Library?

 

·          Use the ODU Library Catalog to search for the title of the journal or newspaper you’re
trying to find. 
Choose a TITLE search and type in the title of the journal or newspaper you desire.

 

The library's journals and magazines are located:
 
(1) In print in the Periodicals section on the top floor, arranged alphabetically by title
(2) Back issues in print (usually prior to 1960) in the Back Issues Room on the bottom floor
(3) In microfilm in cabinets behind the Periodicals section
 
A microfilm reader/printer (with free printing!) is also available on the top floor.
