Academic Search Complete

Contains peer-reviewed journal coverage from more than 3,400 scholarly publications.  Covers many academic areas of study, including social sciences, education, computer sciences, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and social service.   

 

Electronic Journal Center
Presents over 4300 research journals in many subject areas, including sociology and social work.

 

Mental Measurements Yearbook
Online version of Mental Measurements Yearbook. Contains information on and reviews of English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas. Please remember to click on the 'logout' link once finished.

 

Social Work Abstracts

Abstracts only. Contains records from social work and related journals on topics such as homelessness, AIDS, child and family welfare, aging, substance abuse, legislation, community organization. Coverage: 1977 to the present.

 

SocINDEX

This database features records with many sociology-based subject headings. It contains informative abstracts from journals dating back to 1895 and provides many direct links to full-text articles.

Education Research Complete

An EBSCOhost database that includes scholarly research and information relating to all areas of education, including curriculum instruction, administration, policy, funding, and related social issues. Coverage includes journals, books, and conference papers, some indexed as far back as the beginning of the 20th century.

 

ERIC

The U.S. Department of Education's Educational Resource Information Center’s database, which contains citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals. It also contains
full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information.

 

C. Health-related Databases

 

CINAHL (Nursing & Allied Health)
An EBSCOhost database that i
ncludes publications in the areas of nursing, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health, and allied health disciplines, providing access to English-language journal articles, legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. Coverage: 1937 to the present.

 

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition

An EBSCOhost database that includes scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines, with a particularly strong coverage of nursing and allied health.

 

MEDLINE

From the National Library of Medicine.  Covers research journal articles in the clinical sciences in Full Text. Some “Limit search results” features: Language, year, publication type (e.g., article, clinical trial), age group, animal, human, gender, and review articles.

 

NASW Clinical Register

Citations only.  Provides a listing of clinical social workers who have met national standards for education and experience established by the NASW Competence Certification Commission on recommendation of the Committee on Clinical Social Work.

 

PubMed

PubMed is public-accessible health database service of the National Library of Medicine that includes over
15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. Citations from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full-text articles and other related resources.

 

D. Psychology-related Databases

 

PsycCRITIQUES
Weekly reviews of books and films published by the American Psychological Association. In addition to the latest releases, this database contains a ten-year backfile of Contemporary Psychology book reviews, browsable by author/editor, book/film title, or publication year.

 

PsycINFO

Contains citations and synopses of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, business, and law.  Updated weekly.

 

 

 

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection

An EBSCOhost database that covers such topics as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry and psychology, mental processes, sociology, and observational and experimental methods from over 490 peer-reviewed journals.

Choose a TITLE search and type in the title of the journal or newspaper you desire.

·          The library's journals and magazines are located:

(1) In print in the Periodicals section on the top floor, arranged alphabetically by title
(2) Back issues in print (usually prior to 1960) in the Back Issues Room on the bottom floor
(3) In microfilm in cabinets behind the Periodicals section
