In July of 2007, Bishop James A. Griffin began serving as Interim President of Ohio Dominican University. With more than 28 years as a Bishop and having led the Columbus Diocese for 21 years, Bishop Griffin brings a wealth of wisdom, faith, and knowledge to the Ohio Dominican campus. In March 2008, the new Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center, named in his honor—and in the honor of all past, present, and future Bishops—will break ground.
The Student Center will create a community that will serve the physical, academic, and spiritual needs of the Ohio Dominican student. The Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center will represent the “living room” of the campus and will be the focal point for student activities outside the classroom, providing a more vibrant community experience central to our mission as a Dominican University.
The student body needs a centralized area to hold informal gatherings, conduct meetings, study, be entertained, and have access to convenient student services and amenities.
- Expanded gathering and recreational space for both residential and commuter students
- A fitness center including cardio equipment, free weights, and locker rooms
- Meeting and office space for student clubs, organizations, newspaper, and RadiODU
- Conference rooms, workrooms, and study spaces
- A central location for student services such as financial aid, admissions, student health, counseling, advising, and career services
- Convenience amenities such as mail service and the campus bookstore
- Food service, including the Sr. Charles Marie Cyber Café and the Presidential Dining Room
- Additional worship and reflection space
- Entertainment spaces for theater, movies, dances, and special events
- A valuable community resource for the University’s friends and neighbors serving as a prime site for special events and community functions
