Young Mi Chang, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Division of Education. Prior to joining ODU, Dr. Chang worked as a post-doctoral researcher and research fellow at Ball State University. She also served as an assistant professor of Early Childhood Education at Bethel College in Indiana. 

Dr. Chang’s research interests include diversity education utilizing Universal Design for Learning; integration of technology in early childhood curriculum; service learning in teacher education; and social pretend play in early childhood.

She has published and presented on topics such as
  • Critical Examination of Candidates’ Diversity Competence
  • Accommodating Children with ADHD in the Early Childhood Classroom
  • Understanding Diversity: Integration of Service Learning in an Early Childhood Education Course
  • Age-Appropriateness of the Manipulation and Operation Techniques Required for Use of Handheld Computers in a Kindergarten Classroom
  • Enhancing Multicultural Understanding Through Videoconferencing
Dr. Chang holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Studies from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea; a Master of Art degree in Early Childhood Education from Ball State University and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Purdue University.
