    2:00PM – 5:00PM
The Thurber House, 77 Jefferson Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43215

The Children’s Poetry StoryBox is a physical traveling box that was launched at The Thurber Center in February 2014 and has returned to Columbus.

At a reception at the Thurber House, you will hear poetry that was begun by famous children’s poets - including current poet laureate Ken Nesbitt, Jane Yule, Georgia Heard, Nikki Grimes, George Ella, Lyons, David Harrison, Alan Wolf - and finished by hundreds of primarily elementary students around the nation.

Dr. Kevin Cordi, ODU Assistant Professor and Professional Storyteller, and J. Patrick Lewis, former poet laureate and author of more than 80 books of poetry, began this Storybox Project last year.

This family friendly event will consist of :

  • 2 - 3 p.m.
Gather and explore the poems.Read and even write based on the poems already written.
  • 3:10 to 4:45 p.m.
Former poet laureate J. Patrick Lewis will speak and share some poems. Teacher Susan Marantz’s elementary students in Bexley will read with three Columbus poets, Robin Holland, Naki Akrobettoe and Anisa Gandevivala.
  • Time permitting, an open mic will follow so people can read the work in the StoryBox or family friendly poems

Sponsored by Ohio Dominican University, Columbus Area Writing Project and The Thurber House.
