Ohio Dominican University (ODU) has partnered with Motorists Insurance Group, The Institutes and Canal Winchester High School (CWHS) to offer 15 CWHS students an opportunity to take courses that will prepare them for a career in Central Ohio’s growing insurance industry.
The Risk Management Technician Pathway began in fall of 2017 and is a two-year program. Thirteen students are participating this school year.
Once students complete the Pathway, they can choose one of two paths: begin entry-level employment with an insurance agency or company, or put their college credits toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in an insurance-related field. Through the partnership, Motorists Insurance Group has agreed to cover the students’ expenses.
In addition to earning as many as six college credits by completing online ODU Risk Management & Insurance courses, students will receive two nationally recognized insurance certifications: the Essential Business Skills for Insurance Professionals Certificate, and Insurance Essentials Certificate. These courses are based on curriculum from The Institutes, which is an industry leader in training insurance and risk management professionals.
“Over the next decade, Ohio’s insurance industry is expected to experience approximately 29,000 job openings,” said Carol Blaine, director of ODU’s Risk Management & Insurance program. “This Pathway program gives CWHS students a unique opportunity to prepare for a rewarding career in this growing field before they graduate from high school. Thanks to Motorists’ generous support, students can earn industry credentials and college credit without incurring additional expenses.”
