ODU will provide Fulbright alumni and visiting Fulbrighters with diverse opportunities for networking, professional development, mentoring, cultural enrichment, and community service.

May 3, 2019

The Fulbright Association has approved Ohio Dominican University to serve as the host institution for its Central Ohio chapter. As the newest of its more than 50 local chapters, ODU will provide Fulbright alumni and visiting Fulbrighters with diverse opportunities for networking, professional development, mentoring, cultural enrichment, and community service.

Local chapters of the Fulbright Association are organized by Association members. Ohio Dominican University President Robert A. Gervasi, Ph.D. lectured as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Classics at the University of Zimbabwe in 1995.

“I am so pleased that the Fulbright Association has selected Ohio Dominican University to become the home of its new Central Ohio chapter,” Gervasi said. “Ohio Dominican is committed to academic excellence, including excellence in international education. Inspired by our founders, the Dominican Sisters of Peace, we also share the Fulbright Program’s overarching vision of world peace through grassroots contact and understanding among citizens. As a Fulbright alumnus, I’m personally gratified that Ohio Dominican will serve as the focal point for the Fulbright Association in our region.”

The Central Ohio chapter’s inaugural board meeting took place on April 24. The chapter’s current members include American Fulbright alumni as well as present and past Fulbrighters from Mexico, Germany, and Moldova who currently reside in Ohio. The chapter’s president is Christine O’Malley, who serves as a communications consultant at The Ohio State University and is an alumna of the Fulbright Specialist Program. Two ODU staff members serve on the chapter’s board of directors, Maria-Theresia Silber, who is an alumna of the Fulbright Student Program, and Natalie Chang, ODU’s assistant director of Admissions, International & Transfer Students.

Alumni or friends of the Fulbright Association who currently reside in and around Columbus, and are interested in participating in the Central Ohio chapter can email changn@ohiodominican.edu.
