Risk Management & Insurance

  • Gamma Iota Sigma

Why did you choose to attend Ohio Dominican University?
I chose to attend Ohio Dominican for three main reasons:

1, I love ODU’s campus; it is small enough where I can build genuine connections and relationships with other students as well as my professors and advisors. At many large campuses, students can attend lectures and classes everyday yet the professor still does not know their name. At ODU, my professors know my name and are always willing to meet with me outside of class if I need any help.

2, I chose to attend Ohio Dominican University is because of how close it is to my home and family.

3, I also chose Ohio Dominican University because of my interest in my major. When I spoke with Carol Blaine (Risk Management & Insurance Program Director) about my interests in the Insurance & Risk Management field, she provided me with so much insight and so many wonderful opportunities that I knew Ohio Dominican University was going to be the place for me. She has been everything I could ask for in a mentor and I am so blessed to have someone like her in my life.

How do you stay involved at ODU?
I currently serve as the vice president of ODU’s Gamma Iota Sigma chapter, Beta Omega. Gamma Iota Sigma has helped me facilitate my passion for insurance and risk management and has given me the opportunity to network with many industry professionals. Being involved in GIS has also allowed me to attend many insightful conferences and meet so many kind and intelligent students from across the country with whom I share a passion.

What is your most memorable moment at ODU so far?
My most memorable moment at Ohio Dominican so far was my first day of classes during my freshman year. This was the most memorable moment for me because of the sense of belonging I experienced from day one. It was just such an amazing feeling. From my first day, I knew ODU was everything I wanted and needed to create a successful future for myself.

What is one unique experience you’ve had at ODU that has helped you grow personally, professionally and/or spiritually? Why?
A unique experience I have had at ODU was being elected vice president of Gamma Iota Sigma. As a sophomore, I did not think I would be elected for such a high position within our organization, but I am so blessed that Carol Blaine saw potential in me and helped provide me with this wonderful experience. It has helped me grow personally and professionally with regard to my leadership skills, my confidence in a professional setting, and my passion for the insurance and risk management industry.

Why are you proud to be an ODU student?|
I take pride in being an ODU student for many reasons. Ohio Dominican University is a beautiful and diverse campus with an amazing reputation. Everyone I meet is so welcoming, accepting, and intelligent. My professors and advisor are so passionate about their careers and seeing their students succeed. They have provided me with a phenomenal support system. I feel that I am thriving at ODU, and that is something I am very proud of.
