Art Education

Gahanna Lincoln High School, Gahanna, OH

  • President of the Pallet Club (Art Club)

Why did you choose to attend Ohio Dominican University?
I chose to attend ODU for a few different reasons. My mom attended Ohio Dominican and went on to work in the admissions office and teach in its adult education program. During my senior year of high school, I decided to take a tour of ODU at the urging of my mom, and it felt like home the minute I stepped on campus. Not only did campus feel familiar, but it is only a 20-minute drive from my home in Gahanna, so it really was, and still is, a perfect fit for me!

How do you stay involved at ODU?
I stay involved on campus by working with nearly anything the art department does. I also help to organize small events through my participation in the Pallet Club. After graduation, I hope to begin a career teaching art. I love kids, so to teach grade school would be awesome, but I also want to have an impact on high school students.

What is your most memorable moment at ODU?
I don't think I can say there's one specific moment, but meeting so many wonderful people at ODU has been pretty memorable. The teachers are amazing, and I have made great friends here, too.

What is one unique experience you’ve had at ODU that has helped you grow personally, professionally and/or spiritually?
Honestly, I think meeting Dr. Janette Knowles has helped me grow both personally and professionally. She pushes me to not only become a better artist and future teacher, but challenges me to be a better member of the community as well.

Why are you proud to be an ODU student?
I never realized how far ODU's reach went beyond campus. Everyone I mention Ohio Dominican to either went there or knows somebody who did, and always has positive things to say about it. The faculty and staff go out of their way to help students any way they can, so ODU really feels like a close, tight-knit community.
