ODU & Xavier University MSN Pathway

Hospitals throughout Ohio and across the nation are experiencing a significant nursing shortage. ODU’s partnership with Xavier University’s College of Nursing helps to address that shortage by creating a pathway for ODU students to pursue a successful and rewarding career in the nursing field. Through the program, ODU students have access to discounted tuition for XU’s Direct Entry Masters of Science in Nursing (MIDAS) Program upon the completion of their ODU degree.

This accelerated MSN degree is an in-person program designed to prepare students who have bachelor’s degrees in non-nursing fields- no BSN required. XU’s program offers comprehensive training, paving the way for you to become a registered nurse. Learn how to provide expert care and patient advocacy through clinical experiences and courses in ethics, psychiatric nursing, family nursing, adult care, surgical nursing, pharmacology and more.

  • By the end of the program, you will be awarded a MSN degree and be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Exam- Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) exam. You will also be prepared to sit for the Holistic Nurse Certification (HNC) and the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) Certification Examination upon passing the NCLEX exam.

Eligibility Requirements

This partnership is available to all ODU students, regardless of major, who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Complete just four prerequisite courses with a grade “B” or better.
  • Complete a non-nursing degree at ODU.

  • Hospitals and health care facilities across the country are currently experiencing a significant nursing shortage.
  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Registered Nursing (RN) is listed among the top occupations in terms of job growth through 2029.
  • The BLS projects 175,900 openings for RNs each year through 2029 when nurse retirements and workforce exits are factored into the number of nurses needed in the United States.
