Registering Gaming Devices

Many gaming devices today use the Internet for online gaming. You can plug an Ethernet cable into your device and a port in your room to access the Internet. If you experience issues with connecting your gaming device to the Internet via an Ethernet cable, you will need to register its MAC Address with the ODU Computer Helpdesk. Below are the instructions on how to find the information needed to register your gaming device.

  1. All gaming device registrations must be submitted online using the online registration form.
  2. Click Here to register your gaming device.
  3. You will log into the form with your ODU email address and password.
  4. You will fill out the form with the following information:
    1. First and last name
    2. Device’s Make and Model
    3. Device's MAC Address
  5. Click Submit.
  6. The ODU Computer Helpdesk will email you once the registration is finished.

Each gaming device has a unique identifier known as the wired MAC address. A MAC address is 12-digits and comes in the form of 00-00-00-00-00-00. Each device’s wired MAC address may need to be registered to connect to the Internet.

  1. Go to My Xbox in the Xbox dashboard and select Settings.
  2. In the Settings pane, select Network.
  3. Select Advanced Settings from the Network Settings tab.
  4. At the bottom of this screen, you'll see a heading for Wired MAC and Wireless MAC.

  1. Navigate to the Settings page.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select Advanced Settings.
  4. Under IP settings, the MAC address will be listed next to Wired MAC and Wireless MAC on the right-hand side of the screen (this is also where the IP address and other information is located).

  1. Power on the PS4/PS5 without a disc in the system.
  2. In the PS4/PS5 menu, arrow up and select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to Network.
  4. Scroll down to View Connection Status.
  5. The MAC Address will be listed next to MAC Address (LAN) and MAC Address (Wi-Fi).

  1. Click the Start button and select Settings
  2. Select Network & Internet from the left sidebar
  3. Click on Ethernet
  4. The MAC Address is listed as the Physical address (MAC).
