Ohio Dominican University’s Board of Trustees has named former U.S. Representative Pat Tiberi as its newest member. Tiberi is the president and CEO of the Ohio Business Roundtable, a nonprofit organization comprised of the chief executive officers of many of Ohio’s largest companies. His first meeting with the full Board will be on September 27, 2019.
“Pat brings a wealth of experience to the Board of Trustees, particularly in the area of business and economic development,” said Matt Yuskewich, Ohio Dominican’s Board Chair. “Through his many years of dedicated public service, Pat has demonstrated exceptional leadership and business acumen that has allowed Central Ohio communities to grow and neighborhoods to thrive, and he created an environment in which new and existing businesses can flourish.”
Ohio Dominican President Robert Gervasi, Ph.D., believes Tiberi’s skills and extensive professional network will be a benefit to ODU students. “Pat’s ability to build relationships with key leaders in Central Ohio’s business community will undoubtedly serve to create opportunities for our outstanding students in a wide range of fields,” Gervasi said.
“It is a tremendous privilege to be selected to serve on the Board of Trustees of Ohio Dominican University,” Tiberi said. “My parents instilled in me a deep appreciation of the importance of education, and to now be provided an opportunity to have a role in impacting the education of others is a humbling honor. For more than 100 years, Ohio Dominican has remained an educational asset for our Central Ohio community, and today it continues to improve the lives of Central Ohioans by collaborating with businesses and thought leaders to improve our workforce development programs in Ohio. I am grateful for the confidence that ODU’s distinguished and accomplished Board of Trustees has placed in me.”
Since January of 2018, Tiberi has served as president and CEO of the Ohio Business Roundtable (OBRT), a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization comprised of the chief executive officers of many of Ohio’s largest, most successful companies. The Ohio Business Roundtable was established in 1992 for the purpose of improving Ohio’s business climate. Since its inception, the OBRT has worked with Ohio’s governors and legislative leaders to make Ohio more business-friendly and more competitive both nationally and internationally.
Prior to joining the OBRT, Tiberi served 17 years in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Central Ohio. In Congress, Tiberi served as a senior member on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax issues, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and trade agreements. He also served as chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health where he worked to improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of healthcare. Tiberi also served on the Subcommittee on Tax Policy, which he chaired from 2011 to 2014.
During his final year in the House, Tiberi served as Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC). Comprised of both House and Senate members, the JEC is singularly focused on policies to create jobs and strengthen our economy.
The son of Italian immigrants, Tiberi has been a lifelong resident of Central Ohio. He is a 1985 graduate of The Ohio State University and was a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band. He began his career in public service as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Prior to being elected to Congress, he worked as a realtor. Tiberi is a lifelong Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and is past chairman of the Columbus Italian Festival sponsored by St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church. Pat and his wife, Denice, are the proud parents of four daughters.
