New Trial Database: Films on Demand

Apr 5, 2021

As a member of OhioLINK, ODU Library is pleased to announce the rollout of a new database this semester, Films on Demand, from Infobase. This database contains over 36,000 streaming videos. Films on Demand provides videos for health & medicine, humanities & social sciences, science, nursing, physical therapy, allied health, and  world cinema. Available through March 1, 2022.

The database offers videos from a variety of producers, including ABC News, A&E Networks, American Museum of Natural History, Bloomberg, British Museum Company, Cambridge Educational (sic), Capital Media Group, Career Library TV, Cengage Learning, ClickView/VEA (education), CNBC, Country Watch, Davidson Films (psychology, neuroscience, and education), Elsevier (science), EuroArts Music International, Films for Humanities and Sciences, HBO, Inside Science, Intellicom, Kings College London, National Geographic, Nevco Educational Video (allied health), NOVA, Open University, PBS, Reuters Television, TED, Wolters Kluwer Health, and many more.

How to Access this Resource

Films on Demand is available through the library's A-Z Databases. The database is available to all faculty, staff, and students in the ODU Community.

All of the Films on Demand collections have public performance rights.  The only exception is the Feature Films Collection, which is limited to classroom use and use in distance learning courses through PantherLearn.

Support for Faculty

A Quick Start Guide to Films on Demand for Faculty is available from the publisher and details the many features of this database.

Faculty can create playlists, segment videos, and add interactive quizzes to videos, and Films on Demand is compatible with the library's Research Guides and with PantherLearn. To do so, faculty will need to create a Teacher account. We have created a Guide for Faculty: Creating your Account to help you do this.

Ohio Dominican University's reference librarians are currently undergoing training in the Films on Demand database and will be able to assist faculty in navigating through the database as well in the near future. And if you have any questions about adding a video into your course in PantherLearn, please contact Ohio Dominican University's PantherLearning team.

Made Possible by ODU Library, OhioLINK, and GEER

Films on Demand is one of the resources that the library staff are making available this year sto the ODU community as a result of funding through OhioLINK and GEER, the Ohio Governor’s Emergency Education Relief funds, which are part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, federal economic aid authorized in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  OhioLINK has been awarded $2.5 million in GEER funds through the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support the education community during this public health emergency.
