Ohio Dominican University (ODU) will launch a new professional certificate program in Data Science beginning in fall 2021. ODU’s program will prepare students for careers in industries such as banking, insurance and retail, which use data to drive business intelligence and decision-making. The field of data science is currently experiencing a workforce shortage and talent gap due to significant growth.
Students can complete the five-course, 15-credit program in under a year and may choose to take courses 100% online or in a hybrid format, giving them the ability to complete their certificate around their schedule. Traditional undergraduate students majoring in a business- or STEM-related field also can pursue the certificate to enhance their bachelor’s degree.
“There is more data and information in the world today than ever before, and it has never been more important for corporations and organizations of all sizes to have access to qualified professionals to help analyze, organize and make sense of this data,” ODU Vice President for Academic Affairs Manuel Martinez, Ph.D. said. “We’re proud to have worked closely with leaders in the data analytics industry to identify and develop curriculum that aligns with current standards and that will equip our students with the knowledge, tools and skills they need to secure data-driven positions and achieve success in this expanding sector.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer and information research scientist positions are expected to experience a 15% increase from 2019-2029.
Students pursuing ODU’s Certificate in Data Science will complete the following courses:
DAT 110 – Statistics for Data Science (3 credits)
DAT 210 – Data Visualization with Tableau Software (3 credits)
DAT 230 – Programming Fundamentals with Python (3 credits)
DAT 330 – Data Analytics with Python (3 credits)
DAT 470 – Capstone Project in Data Science (3 credits)
